Spring has sprung. The weather is improving, presenting a perfect opportunity to add physical activity and exercise to your daily routine. When exploring different types of exercise, be it cardio, strength training, or flexibility, the benefits of regular physical activity for preventing chronic diseases, setting fitness goals, and overcoming barriers to exercise are important. There are many practical ways to add more physical activities to your daily routine.

There are small changes to make for big impact. Opt for the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator whenever possible. This is a quick burst of cardio and leg work. Choose parking spots that are a bit further from your destination (work, grocery store, etc.) to incorporate a short walk. If you have a sedentary job, set reminders to stand up, stretch, and walk around for a few minutes every hour.

You can integrate activities just like you schedule meetings. Block out 10-15 minute slots for a brisk walk, stretching, or some quick exercises. Instead of just eating at your desk, take a walk before or after your meal. Last of all, try to make it a habit. You're more likely to stick with activities you find fun and engaging.
