Kale also known as leaf cabbage, belongs to a group of cabbage, primarily grown for its edible leaves, has also been used as an ornamental plant. In the United States, kale is generally harvested from August through late October. Due to its hardiness and long shelf life, kale can often be found year-round in many grocery stores. Choose kale with small or medium sized leaves-they are the most tender and have the best flavor. Great for salads, smoothies, stir-fries and soups. Kale can be sautéed, roasted, baked or enjoyed raw.
